About these tools

A generator that phones home is a generator that has handed someone the thing it generated. This is not a theoretical concern in either direction.

A wifi QR code contains your network password in plain text as part of the payload — encoding one through a server hands over the password to your home or business network, and almost nobody thinks about it because the tool feels like a calculator rather than a form. A password generated on someone else's machine is a password they have seen. Both are ordinary, popular, free online services.

So the QR encoder is written out in this site rather than fetched from a CDN, and every random value comes from crypto.getRandomValues rather than Math.random, whose output can often be predicted from a handful of past values. The password generator also rejects the biased tail of each draw instead of taking a modulo, which is the small, invisible mistake that quietly erodes exactly the property you are generating for.

You can verify the claim rather than trust it: open your browser's network tab and use any of these. This site makes no external requests at all.

What people ask

Is anything I generate sent anywhere?

No — and there is no CDN request either, so no third party even learns that you used the tool. The QR encoder is part of this site rather than a library fetched from elsewhere. Open your network tab and check.

How random is "random" here?

Every value comes from crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographic source. Math.random is not used anywhere in these tools — it is fast, non-cryptographic, and its future output can often be recovered from past values, which is fatal for a password and merely unfair for a raffle.

What is the modulo bias, and why does it matter?

Taking a random byte modulo 62 makes the first eight characters of a 62-character alphabet come up about 0.4% more often than the rest — forever, invisibly. These tools reject and redraw any value that would land in the biased tail instead.

Do the QR codes expire?

Never. The code is a direct encoding of your text, with no service behind it. "Dynamic" QR codes from other providers route through their servers, which is what lets them change the destination — and what makes them stop working if that company disappears.
