That is the whole arrangement. Everything below is detail about how we keep it honest.
Why this exists
The tools here are free, have no account, no page limits and no upsell. Something has to pay for the domain, the hosting and the time. Two things do: a small number of recommendations for paid products, and — later — advertising in clearly marked positions.
The alternative models are worse for you. A subscription would put a wall around tools that cost nothing to run. An email wall would trade your address for something that should be free. Selling data is impossible here by design, since your files never arrive and there is no profile to build.
Which programmes
None yet. No affiliate programmes are currently active on this site and no recommendation links are live. This page is published in advance so that the disclosure is in place before the first link is, rather than after.
When programmes are added, they will be named here.
The rules we hold ourselves to
- Never more than two recommendations on a tool page, and three on the home page. More than that reads as a link farm and gets in the way of the tool you came for.
- The disclosure sits above the links, always visible. Not collapsed, not in the footer, not in grey small print, not after the click.
- Recommendations sit below the result, never above the heading and never inside a tool panel. You should never be unsure whether you are looking at a feature or an advert.
- Nothing that competes with a free tool on the same page, unless it genuinely does more. A desktop PDF suite alongside a browser merge tool is a fair suggestion; a rival online merge tool is not.
- No supplements, no weight-loss products, nothing making a health claim, on any page — regardless of what the commission would be.
- Nothing we have not used or cannot stand behind. The differentiator of this site is that it can be trusted. A bad recommendation costs more than it earns.
- If a product is not available where you are, the recommendation is hidden rather than pointing you at a checkout you cannot use.
- Commission rate never affects position or wording. If a better product pays less, the better product is still the one recommended.
How the links behave
Every recommendation link is marked in the page code with rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" and opens in a new tab, so search engines are told it is a paid link and your session here is not disturbed.
Links route through an address on this site of the form /go/product-name/, which redirects to the seller. That exists so a changed tracking address is one edit rather than fifty, and those addresses are excluded from search indexing.
When you arrive at the seller, they typically set a cookie so they can credit this site if you buy. That cookie is theirs, on their site, under their privacy policy. We never learn your name, your email, what you bought or what you paid — only an anonymous count of referrals.
The rules behind the rules
Disclosure is a legal requirement in all five countries this site serves, and the standards differ slightly. Rather than write five disclosures, this one is written to satisfy the strictest reading of each:
- United States
- The FTC requires disclosure of a material connection, made "clear and conspicuous" — close to the recommendation, in plain language, and not buried in a footer or behind a link.
- United Kingdom
- The CMA and the ASA require that paid or incentivised content be obviously identifiable as such before someone engages with it, under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations and the CAP Code.
- Canada
- The Competition Bureau requires disclosure of any material connection between a reviewer and a seller, prominently and in language a reader will understand.
- Australia
- The ACCC applies the Australian Consumer Law’s prohibition on misleading or deceptive conduct, which includes failing to reveal a commercial relationship behind a recommendation.
The common thread is that a reasonable person should know, before they click, that a link may earn us money. That is why the disclosure sits above the links.
