Why it works this way
Most online PDF and image tools send your file to a server. The interface makes this feel local; it is not. For however long that file sits on someone else’s machine, its contents are readable by the company running it, by anyone who compromises it, and by anyone who can compel them to hand it over.
For a holiday photo that hardly matters. But look at what people actually put through these tools: signed tenancy agreements, passport scans for visa applications, payslips for a mortgage broker, medical letters, divorce paperwork, bank statements with an account number on every page. The average "merge two PDFs" job is far more sensitive than the average email, and it is usually treated with far less care.
Browsers can now do this work themselves. The File API reads a file you have chosen without sending it anywhere; WebAssembly and Canvas transform it at speeds that were server-only a decade ago. So that is how this site is built. Not as a marketing position — as the obviously correct engineering choice once it became possible.
Every tool on this site runs inside your browser. Your files are opened, processed and saved on your own device, and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser’s network panel, run any tool, and watch that nothing leaves.
Why five countries
The calculators are localised rather than translated. A take-home pay calculator is not a currency swap away from a paycheck calculator: the United Kingdom has PAYE, National Insurance and several student loan plans; Canada has CPP and EI on top of federal and provincial tax; Australia has PAYG, the Medicare levy, HECS-HELP and the superannuation guarantee; the United States has federal brackets plus fifty state regimes; and India has two entire parallel tax regimes the taxpayer chooses between, a cess charged on the tax rather than on income, and EPF and state professional tax in place of any single payroll levy.
Each of those gets its own page, its own worked example and its own vocabulary, with the rate source and tax year printed on it so you can check whether it is current before relying on it. The same care goes into the small things — date order, fuel economy units, and whether a PDF should default to Letter or A4.
How this is paid for
Two ways, and both are visible to you.
Affiliate recommendations. Some pages carry a small number of clearly labelled recommendations for paid products. If you buy through one, this site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. No affiliate programmes are active yet. There are never more than two on a tool page, they always sit below the result rather than above it, and the disclosure is above the links rather than buried. Advertising, eventually. The site is built with advertising positions reserved but switched off. If and when they are switched on, they will be clearly marked as advertising, they will never sit inside a tool panel, and you will be asked about the storage they use before any of it is set.
What will not happen: your files are not the product, because they never reach us. There is no account, no email wall, no free-tier page limit, and no upsell that unlocks a feature by removing an artificial restriction.
What this site promises
- Your files stay on your device. Not "we delete them after an hour" — they never arrive.
- No account, ever. Nothing here requires you to identify yourself.
- Limits are stated, not discovered. Where a tool cannot do something well, the page says so before you start rather than after you have wasted ten minutes.
- Recommendations are disclosed above the link. Not in a footer, not in small grey text, not after the click.
- The numbers are dated. Tax rates and platform dimensions carry the date they were last checked, because a confidently wrong number is worse than an obviously old one.
